National Improvised Explosives Familiarization

Course Description:
The National Improvised Explosives Familiarization (NIEF) program is a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) initiative to train bomb technicians, other first responders, and the chemical industry on the potential uses of common industrial and household chemicals in the manufacture of explosives.  Students will receive instruction on explosive precursor chemicals, the manufacture of improvised explosives, oversight and tripwire programs, and the hazards of clandestine laboratories.

This course includes both classroom instruction and a live range demonstration of some of the explosive materials discussed in class.  At the conclusion of the course, participants will have gained a better appreciation for and understanding of the hazards posed by improvised explosives.

Course Provider:
This course is being taught by a team of subject matter expert instructors from the FBI and the New York State Police.

Costs:
There is NO FEEfor this course.
Lunch will be provided each day.
Travel and all other meals are the responsibility of the course participant.
Lodging WILL be provided on the nights of July 13 and 14, 2015 for Public Sector personnel ONLY(Federal grant funds cannot be used for Private Industry personnel).  After your enrollment is confirmed in the course, you will receive an email verifying your lodging needs.
Hotel Payment:
*NOTE*You are only eligible for lodging if your residence and official work station are more than 50 miles from the training center and you are Public Sector personnel. Lodging is NOT available for Federal employees or Private Industry participants. You must be enrolled in the course and have received lodging confirmation from the SPTC before arriving at the training center, or your lodging will not be covered and you will not be allowed in the class. If you have any questions, contact the SPTC at 315-768-5689 or by email at SPTC.INFO@dhses.ny.gov prior to arriving at the training center.

No Show Policy:
Failure to attend a class you have registered for can result in restriction on future course attendance and agency notification. If you have not received a confirmation or denial two weeks prior to the course data, please contact DHSES, SPTC at (315) 768-5689.
