SCN and ADL Partner with Broward Jewish Federation to Host Latest Joint Security Briefing in South Florida
The Secure Community Network (SCN) and ADL’s (Anti-Defamation League) Florida Region & Center on Extremism (COE) recently convened the latest installment of their Security & Intelligence Briefings Program on May 19, in partnership with Jewish communities across Florida. Hosted by the Jewish Federation of Broward County, the hybrid event gathered dozens of security representatives and community leaders from local Jewish institutions for a high-level discussion on the evolving threat environment, antisemitism, and the integration of Jewish community security initiatives throughout Florida.
In the span just of two weeks, the Jewish community has endured two violent and targeted terror attacks, first outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., and then at a “Run for Their Lives” event in Boulder, Colorado, underscoring the urgent need for a proactive, layered security strategy informed by best practices and timely intelligence.
This joint initiative reflects the ongoing commitment by SCN and ADL to providing Jewish communities with the most current intelligence, security guidance, and best practices. These briefings are part of a larger effort to proactively equip communities with tools to assess and respond to threats and adjust security posture to ensure Jewish life remains robust, safe, secure, and uninterrupted.
Presenters in the Florida briefing included SCN Florida Regional Director Alan Poland, ADL Florida Deputy Regional Director Lonny Wilk, an ADL Center on Extremism Investigative Researcher, and an SCN Intelligence Products Manager.
“The continued rollout of this program is an important step in strengthening our collective security through collaboration and informed intelligence sharing,” said SCN National Director & CEO Michael Masters. “The threats we face transcend borders and institutions. That’s why the partnership between communities, security professionals, and organizations like ADL is essential to keeping the Jewish community safe.”
“The recent attacks on the Jewish community in D.C. and Colorado have shown us the active threat that the Jewish community faces,” added Oren Segal, ADL Senior Vice President for Counter-Extremism and Intelligence. “In this climate, close collaboration between organizations like ADL and SCN is not just valuable — it’s essential. By combining the ADL Center on Extremism’s world-class intelligence gathering and analysis capabilities and SCN’s top level security insights, we’re delivering timely, regionally specific briefings that help communities respond effectively to dynamic and emerging threats.”
“In light of the deeply troubling rise in antisemitic incidents, this initiative reflects our ongoing focus on vigilance and community safety,” said Audra Berg, President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Broward County. “Through close collaboration with SCN, ADL, and our neighboring Federations, we’re building a united front—sharing knowledge, strengthening preparedness, and ensuring our synagogues, schools, and partner agencies are equipped to face potential threats.”
In light of the current threat environment, SCN, ADL, and other partners issued Eight Security Recommendations for Hosting Public or Community Events, outlining actionable steps to reduce risk and increase preparedness.
