The Webinar Event Provided Timely Threat Updates, Event Security Guidance, and Personal Safety Recommendations as Jewish Communities Remain on High Alert

The Secure Community Network (SCN), the official safety and security organization for the Jewish community in North America, hosted a timely security webinar for over 1,000 registrants that provided key recommendations and guidance in the aftermath of the deadly shooting outside the Jewish Capital Museum in Washington, D.C.

The large number of participants reflects the alarming threat environment facing the Jewish community and the urgent demand for effective security measures. Attendees received a detailed briefing on the attack and the current threat landscape, guidance on event security and planning, personal safety recommendations, and the opportunity to hear from seasoned security professionals and former law enforcement officials.

The targeted, tragic, and horrific shooting outside a Jewish facility during a Jewish event is yet another sobering reminder that Jews remain a target in North America. We continue to see how violent rhetoric, often originating abroad and amplified in online spaces, has inspired a wide range of actors to carry out threats against our community. The over 1,000 registrants for this briefing reflect both the heightened vigilance within our community and the urgency to stay prepared. SCN remains committed to providing every community member with the tools, training, and resources they need to stay safe.

Michael Masters, SCN National Director and CEO

The webinar drew strong representation from major metropolitan areas across the United States, along with active participation from a range of Jewish communities, including Canadian attendees, reflecting widespread concern and engagement across the Jewish community.

Participants received timely guidance from SCN’s Duty Desk, Stuart Frisch, SCN’s National Training & Exercise Advisor; and Edward Farrell, SCN’s Director of Protective Security and Intelligence Programs. They also engaged in a Q&A session with a panel of experts, including Jeremy Yamin, Director of Security and Operations at CJP Boston; Chuck Berkowitz, Senior Director of Law Enforcement at the Community Security Service (CSS); and Kerri Reifel, SCN and Hillel International’s Director of Campus Safety & Security.

Since the incident, SCN has remained in close coordination with its national network of security directors, Jewish communal leaders, and law enforcement partners, providing real-time threat assessments and updated security recommendations. SCN’s 24/7 Duty Desk has also tracked a rise in calls for violence against the Jewish community, including several direct references to this incident, reinforcing the need for vigilance.

SCN encourages Jewish institutions and event organizers to review its Eight Security Recommendations for Hosting Public or Community Events and consult with their local security professional to ensure proper planning and preparedness.
